Quad Learning brings college access mission closer to own home, participating in DC College Application Week
WASHINGTON, DC, November 8, 2014 – On Friday, the staff at Quad Learning’s DC office welcomed 30 local students from Dunbar Senior High School to participate in DC College Application Week. “The enthusiasm in the room was contagious,” says Phil Bronner, CEO, “not only did the students ask engaging questions, but they also shared their goals for college and beyond.”
The all-male cohort of first-generation students participated in a series of activities to prepare them for the college process, ranging from learning about financial aid to writing college application essays. Each student came to the event, prepared with a transcript as well as the beginnings of a college application, either having just a target college in mind or having completed a draft application.
Unique to this event was that all students who participated were the first in their families to apply to college. As a DC-based higher education company, Quad Learning specializes in alternative pathways for earning a bachelor’s degree (American Honors). The staff wanted to share a bit of their collective college knowledge with the local community and help students advance toward their goals.
Bronner calls the event, the first of its kind for QL, a success: “I’m glad I had the chance to share the afternoon with these boys,” says Bronner. “They’re hungry for education. We can’t wait to see where they go!”
